Program Overview

Meals On Wheels provides nutritionally balanced, home delivered meals to homebound elderly and disabled citizens of Sheboygan County.

Meals are delivered Monday through Friday over the noon hour. Weekend and evening meals are also available.

The meals are delivered to the client’s door by well trained volunteers who also provide a daily safety check.

Eligibility

Eligibility does not depend on age or income.

To be eligible to receive meals, our clients:

  • are primarily homebound
  • have difficulty preparing a nutritious meal
  • have no consistent daytime help with meal preparation
  • are able to accept meals between 11:15 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. on weekdays

Short-term service is also available for people who need home-delivered meals while recuperating from an illness, or to give caretakers a break.

Cost

Dinner $5.50 per day
Dinner/Supper $8.75 per day
Weekend meal $5.50 per day

Some financial assistance is available to those who qualify.

What’s In a Meal?

All meals provide one third of the Recommended Dietary Allowances (RDA), meet the USDA’s Dietary Guidelines for Americans, and adhere to federal meal pattern requirements.  Menus are planned and
prepared under the supervision of a registered dietitian.

Each meal contains the following:

1 2-3 oz. serving of meat
1 serving of vegetable
1 serving of starch (pasta, potato, rice)
1 serving of fruit    
1 serving of bread
1 serving of milk or juice
1 serving of dessert
